Is 1200kcal too few ?

I'm 24M, 6ft, 220lbs (100kgs) and I've tried quite a few diets (some of which have worked in the past) I'm not doing very much at the moment (like most people) and I was on a 1900kcal diet since February but lost very little which is rather discouraging, I've tried doing a bit more cardio but it's hard when you've got an extra 20kg to carry around

I'm hoping to shift a large portion of the weight with a "low cal diet" then go back to a 1900 diet and just up the cardio once it's a bit kinder on the knees

From what I could find, the reason the low cal diets aren't recommended is because people end up not sticking to them or bingeing afterwards and gaining it all back

Does anyone have any experience in pairing a 300kcal deficit diet with a 1000kcal one ? What time frames should I be aiming for in each one of these "phases" ?
