100 pounds lost
A little over a year ago I was told I am diabetic. My A1C then was over 14%, (5.7% or lower is normal)
My weight was almost 400 pounds, 385.
I started by making one small switch. I stopped drinking regular pop. I never 100% quit and occasionally had some because I wanted some. In January I injured my shoulder from falling on ice and need surgery. For the surgery, I need my A1C to be at least 7.5% or lower. It was 7.8% at the end of April.
I kicked into high gear to get that to 7.5% Salads were my main source of nutrition. Most days I ate 2 salads and that was it. I started going to Planet Fitness for more than just using the hydromassage table, I actually exercised.
At the end of May, I got my A1C down to 7.7% so I kicked a little more.
I just got back from getting my A1C tested again and it is now 6.1%, I'm almost considered normal.
A big byproduct of me doing all this is my weight is not 286 pounds. I have lost 100 pounds, 25 was in the last 2 months.
The big secret? I didn't shame myself and quit if I went and had a donut or that regular pop. I never called it "cheating" on my diet. Psychologically, for me at least, saying you cheated on your diet indicates failure which can lead to giving up. Don't call it cheating, call it a reward for the hard work.
If anyone is out there trying to lose weight, quit smoking, etc. Don't be so hard on yourself. Give yourself those little rewards every once in a while and you will achieve your goal. If you don't meet a self-imposed deadline, move the deadline and continue on.
You can do it!
