Plateaus Are Frustrating Progress!
I've seen a lot of discussion recently concerning plateaus and so I figured that I would share my experience.
These past 30 days have been a test of my discipline! I think most people would call my June a plateau. I tracked my calories with extreme precision and was supposed to lose 3 pounds this month, but I only lost 0.6 pounds! What gives?!? This can be very frustrating because I work hard on my diet and exercise. I know that others on this sub are in similar situations and try all sorts of things to "break" the plateau.
I'm here to tell you to not do those things. Keep calm and stick to the plan. As long as you are 100% certain you're in a calorie deficit, plateaus are actually progress. Your body is still burning fat at the same rate as it was when the scale weight was going down - it's just that progress can be concealed by our dumb bodies and their fluctuations. That's why it's so important to measure progress in a bunch of different ways. Progress pictures. Body measurements. Scale weight. None are perfect on their own and can be sources of motivation when you need it. Personally, I don't think my pictures look all that different 6/1 vs 6/30. And the scale weight is pretty much identical. But, sure enough, my waist is an entire inch smaller. Progress is happening, even if you can't see it on the scale.
