Starbucks Is Officially Promoting Meatless Mondays for the First Time

In 2021, Starbucks will join the Meatless Monday campaign for the first time. Every Monday from January 4 to January 25, the chain will offer customers $2 off its vegetarian breakfast items at participating stores to promote its meatless options. The offer cannot be combined with other offers and applies to the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich (which it launched nationwide in June), the Southwest Veggie Wrap, and the Spinach Feta & Egg White Wrap—all vegetarian options that cannot be ordered vegan. The discount cannot be redeemed through Uber Eats delivery.

Starbucks joined the Meatless Monday campaign to support its effort of becoming a resource positive company, a goal it hopes to achieve in large part by focusing on plant-based foods and beverages. “We are proud to have a history of offering customers products that meet their lifestyles and taste preferences—including a variety of meatless food choices and alternative non-dairy milks—and our new January Meatless Mondays offer is another way we want to encourage customers to kick off the new year doing what’s best for them,” a Starbucks spokesperson told VegNews.

Vegan at Starbucks?
While participating in Meatless Mondays is a monumental step for Starbucks, the food items it is promoting cannot be ordered vegan. Starbucks does offer a vegan bagel and avocado spread breakfast option but it is not part of the Meatless Monday promotion.

In October, Starbucks began testing the Plant Powered Breakfast Sandwich—a fully vegan sandwich made with a mung bean-based egg, a plant-based sausage patty, dairy-free cheese, and served on an English muffin—at one location in Issaquah, WA. The same location was also testing Miyoko’s vegan cream cheese in Everything and Cinnamon Raisin flavors and quiche-like Plant Powered Potato Bake bites made from plant-based egg. Starbucks has not yet announced if these vegan options will be available at other locations.

In the beverage department, Starbucks continues to expand its vegan options with oat milk, which will be hitting all of its locations nationwide this spring.
