Dunkin’ Just Launched Avocado Toast; Vegan Doughnuts Are Still Nowhere To Be Found 

Today, fast-food chain Dunkin’ added an avocado toast as a plant-based breakfast option to its menu across the United States. The new Dunkin’ Avocado Toast is made with simple ingredients and starts with a base of toasted sourdough bread topped with smashed avocado, sea salt, and black pepper, and then sprinkled with Everything Bagel Seasoning which includes sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, and garlic. The new avocado toast—which capitalizes on the tried-and-tested millennial trend—is available for $2.99 and comes in its own portable box. 

“Dunkin’s new Avocado Toast is the definition of quality delivered at the speed of Dunkin’,” Jill Nelson, Vice President, Marketing & Culinary at Dunkin’, said. “We’ve taken a popular brunch staple and made it accessible for anyone looking for something easy and delicious to eat on-the-go. With simple ingredients at an affordable price, Dunkin’s Avocado Toast is the latest feel-good addition to our evolving menu.”

Vegan at Dunkin’

The Dunkin’ menu began evolving in the plant-based direction last year with the launch of the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich—which can be ordered vegan by omitting the cheese and egg—at all 9,000 Dunkin’ locations nationwide. Last month, the chain continued its plant-based trajectory with the launch of the vegetarian Southwest Veggie Power Breakfast Sandwich to its menu at participating locations nationwide for a limited time. The sandwich features a vegan MorningStar Farms Black Bean Patty, an egg white omelet, dairy-based white cheddar cheese, and is served on a multigrain thin bun. To order the sandwich vegan, Dunkin’ suggests removing the omelet and cheese and substituting the multigrain thin bun (which contains honey) with vegan bread options such as an English muffin or a bagel.

In the beverage department, Dunkin’s menu is also evolving with the addition of Planet Oat’s oat milk, which is now available at all locations as part of Dunkin’s new Iced Oatmilk Latte, as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks and as a substitute to any milk option (additional charges may apply). 

However, its doughnut menu has yet to evolve in the vegan direction but that may soon change. Last year, Dunkin’ CEO David Hoffman said that the chain is continuing to “investigate a viable vegan doughnut option” and is “looking at it closely.” A petition for a vegan doughnut at Dunkin’ organized by animal-rights group Animal Outlook currently has more than 21,000 signatures.
